Historical Globalization

In this unit I learned that the imperialism was a big issue for a really long time. I found it really interesting that so many countries(mostly European) were taking over other countries like Canada and Libya. I can connect what have learned in class to English because I have learned a lot of new words to use. What surprised me this unit was that Europeans though they had the White Mans burden to help natives become civilized. One concept I am still having difficulty with is that the only people with power was the Europeans. One skill I found use full was the paragraph writing because I can write better paragraphs that will be better for me and the person reading it. We used it to write paragraphs in essays.

Mercantilism is where a monarch(king or queen) gives a company sole permission to a colony for resources so the monarch can get money from it. When the industry's gained enough money they created their own business which lead to Capitalism. Capitalism is where private owned businesses run it with no government involvement. Worth more and more businesses getting involved the businesses need faster ways to make their product which is where the age of Industrialization began. Industrialization is where the industries began using machines to make products at low prices. Countries wanted to improve their riches by using cheap resources. The countries started taking over other countries also known as imperialism. Imperialism is where the countries take over another countries politics, economy and military.

The picture tells us that people though that white people had to tale up "The White Man's Burden". The burden is where white people have to "civilize" other people of other cultures. The White Man's Burden is what caused the Scramble for Africa. The Scramble is where the Europeans "scrambled" to get land in Africa. The motivation for the scramble was that the Europeans wanted cheap resources and cheap labour. The Europeans took over colonies like Canada and Rwanda. A colony is a country controlled by another country. Many countries outside of Europe were colonies. What I have been talking about can be practically summarized by one word: Imperialism.

Imperialism has left a big legacy on Canada in good and bad ways. Imperialism came to Canada in the form of the French in the 1500's, and the British some time later which lead to The Seven Years War. This shows that the British doesn't like sharing their colonies. This also shows that people in First Nation didn't have a say in who controls Canada. The multi-controllers is what caused the country to be bilingual. This show that people were taught both French and English. This also shows that both French people and British people lived in Canada with the First Nations. Therefore both negative and positive impacts happened to Canada because of imperialism.

Globalization has happened through the centuries and has had good and negative impacts. Globalization is when cultures and people from around the world are connecting to each other. It happen during imperialization when the Europeans connected with the First Nations.
